In the Age of Quarantine
The 'Untitled Sound Drawing' is part of a bigger project by Volkmar Klien entitled 'The Audio-Visual Archive' The Audio-Visual Archive presents not only a collection of sounds and images but an entire system to put things into proper order; sonically as well as visually. It is comprised of archival cards, sound drawings with analog audio tape on their backs organized in folders and boxes as well a dedicated reading apparatus, the ‘Lesegerät’. These cards connect images (drawings, scores, etc.) to short recordings of related sound accessible through AV archive’s proprietary ‘Lesegerät’. Further information on the AV Archive including a short video demonstrating the AV Archive's functionality is available at http://www.volkmarklien.com/works/installations/av-archiv-E.html The analog version of the AV archive is counterpointed by a digital version on snark.art’s blockchain-based platform entitled ‘Sometimes a Thousand Twangling Instruments’. https://snark.art/1000-twangling-instruments/
