Collecting water takes time.
Since I moved to Angola, Africa, I’ve been interested in the everyday action of carrying and collecting water.
Millions of women and girls spend hours every day traveling to water sources, waiting in line and carrying heavy loads – often several times a day.
In a world where 2 billion people don’t have access to safe water at home, where women still carry most of the world’s water.
My ongoing ceramic’s series #Yemoja, where the title comes from the Yoruba Candomblé deity's beliefs, yemaya meaning Goddess/mother of the oceans, making a strong evocation to slavery trade from Nigeria to Brazil, intents to make a homage to all these women and girls. A jerrycan is an object of everyday life in African countries, each ceramic piece I make, I evoke a powerful woman that is right now carrying water.
