Liz Capote

Artist

Liz Capote Alonso (S. Antonio de los Baños, 1996) is an emerging Cuban artist who graduated as a graphic designer in 2019 in Havana’s Higher Institute of Design (ISDI). As she would put it, her work “is a reflective visual essay on daily existence in a society where violence is a political and moral state. Individualities emerge, taking shape in the characters I build. The female body is the object of admiration and analysis as a germ seed which is the matrix, but not the exclusive outcome of a piece. In surreal landscapes, multiple asexual beings appear, almost always dancing between fluids. Battles take place within their consciousness. Their existential and identity conflicts and the limits of their morals lead them to the difficult choice of either accepting punishment or dying”. At the age of 23, she had a solo show, “Palíndromo”, in Havana’s multidisciplinary powerhouse Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC). Amongst the group shows in which her work was featured, we mention: “Ilustreichon NAO”, Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales, Havana (Cuba), 2020; “El Arte de no estar calladas”, Galería Taller Gorria, Havana (Cuba), 2020; “Puzzle”, Galería Taller Gorria, Havana (Cuba), 2019; “GRL PWR My Generation”, Pendleton Street Photography, Cincinnati, (Ohio) 2019.
